Serum Beta-glucuronidase Determination in Normal Subjects and in Neurological and Mental Patients; a Provisional Report.

چکیده
Using the method given by GOLDSTEIN (1961)9 for the determination of serum beta-glucuronidase activity, this value was determined in both normal and patients with epilepsy, neuroses, psychoses and multiple sclerosis. Of the patient groups examined, the group of those suffering from epilepsy is the only one showing any difference of statistical significance for all four methods of determination. The group of patients suffering from neuroses differs significantly from the normal group as regards the results got by the method of heat coagulation for removal of the proteins. The material is however too small to provide any explanation of the results, but it appears to show that a determination of serum glucuronidase activity may be of interest in groups of diseases other than malignant tumors. ∗PMID: 14123338 [PubMed indexed for MEDLINE] Copyright c ©OKAYAMA UNIVERSITY MEDICAL SCHOOL Acta Med. DETERMINATION OF SERUM LIPOPROTEINS IN BETA-THALASSEMIA TRAIT AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO CHRONIC HEMOLYSIS
100 patients with beta-thalassemia trait, comprised of 55 men and 45 women, participated in a study to measure serum lipoproteins. The results were compared with the data obtained from 100 control subjects of the same age and sex. A significantly lower level of mean serum total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, and a much higher level of HDL cholesterol were obtained in beta-thalassemia trai...
متن کاملPrevalence of Delta Beta Thalassemia Minor in Southern Iran
Background: Hb A2 is elevated in subjects with beta thalassemia minor but small percent of carriers have normal Hb A2 with elevated levels of HbF (2-10%). This type of thalassemia is called delta beta thalassemia, and can be missed in pre-marriage hematologic consults or screening which leads to increased risk of child birth with beta thalassemia major. Materials and Methods: In this prospe...
متن کاملA note on the determination of serum beta-glucuronidase activity.
A modification of the method of Fishman, Springer, and Brunetti (1948) for determining serum beta-glucuronidase activity is described. Normal values are presented and some of the factors which might influence the serum enzyme determination have been investigated.
متن کاملDetermination of Alpha 1-Antitrypsin Phenotypes and Genotypes in Iranian Patients
Alpha 1-antitrypsin (AAT) or alpha 1-protease inhibitor (PI) is the principal inhibitor of proteolytic enzyme in serum. Its phenotypic variability has been reported to be associated with liver, lung diseases and rheumatoid arthritis in humans. There is much documentation about high risk phenotypes of PI in some regions of the world, however, there are no reliable reports on these phenotypes and...

Schizophrenia is one of the most important and disabling mental disorders in the world. Males and females are equally affected. Diagnosis is a very difficult problem in this disorder. Because the diagnostic systems such as ICD-10 and DSM-IV are mainly subjective, they are not valid and reliable. Essentially, in the future, we will need to more objective criteria in psychiatry especially in diag...
